I was dead tired tonight so I went to bed early thinking that I would drift off to sleep. Of course that didn’t happen. It was just one of those nights your mind keeps going round in circles.
While I was laying there ruminating I thought about the process of how we as adults become who we are not so much by what we hear coming out of our parents mouths but by what we observe. This early part of our upbringing is considered by most astrologers to be reflected in the northern part of the horoscope at the time you born. This is what we call the fourth house, and the natural sign of Cancer. The planet which rules our early upbringing is the Moon.
This all sounds very technical but it is not! Essentially this fourth house is considered along with the other angular houses as one of the pillars of the horoscope. Knowing this, the astrologer can study the relationship of the other planets to this area of your horoscope and come up with revealing insights.
Astrologers believe along with this fourth house, the eighth and twelfth spaces of the chart to be considered as well. Simply relying on the Moon, a single body to reference all our childhood and emotional qualities is limited. Depending on the time of the day that you are born any of the planets may temporarily rule this area of your life. It would be vastly different for your life to be ruled by the Sun with Leo in that area of your horoscope compared to say Capricorn being the governing Zodiac sign with Saturn ruling your early childhood. This is the way astrologers glean precise information about your past.
Taking that example one step further, we see how different qualitatively the Sun and Saturn are. In fact these planets are bitter enemies. Other factors notwithstanding, the Sun is obviously a bright open, generous and popular planet whereas Saturn is morose, cool, aloof and slow in coming forward. The understanding and resolution of these aspects of your life lead to an immense inner peace and freedom which is why the 12th and 8th houses which triangulate this 4th house are considered spiritual houses. Release from the past and future is the key to self actualization and personal freedom!
But is this technical information of any use you ask? Well actually no! Not unless you’re an aspiring astrologer. This is probably why doctors don’t sit down and start conjugating Latin verbs for you when you visit them in a worried state of mind asking “Will I live or will I die Doctor?” The doctor is interested in alleviating your concerns, pinpointing the problem and interpreting the technical jargon in a manner that is understandable to you, the layperson. This is how astrologers should deal with their clients too.
For those of you still reading this, as I’m sure many of you would have dropped off the perch once you saw just the slightest bit of technical information being proposed, you realize that my intention here is not just to inform you of your early childhood development and future spiritual freedom, but also to point out the differences in approach by astrologers such as myself. Trying to make the predictions as practical as possible for the client is a key component in providing useful advice.
But what if you can’t afford an astrologer or prefer the do – it – yourself method? Well, there are some simple methods by which you can realign yourself with the cycles of the Moon, even without an astrologer! The Moon represents the changing faces of your mind and emotions. The lunar calendar is easily obtainable online and you should synchronise this with your diary. On a daily basis quickly jot down the different moods and emotions you feel from day to day.
Now, highlight those periods of more intense stress or anxiety, physical discomfort or mental confusion. Note down which phases of the Moon occur around these peak times and then draw your own conclusions. Don’t believe what I’m saying. Use this as a scientific experiment born out of your own curiosity to understand the principles of astrology indeed impact on your life. You can know beforehand when these cycles will take place.
If you note a specific pattern it’s quite likely that you will be able to project, given the coming phases of the Moon, when you are likely to experience those peak times in your life again and again. Being forewarned is forearmed. This understanding radically helps you to plan and adjust yourself for the changing times of your life and future, much like farmers use the phases of the Moon to plant their seeds.
One of the biggest problems I’ve had to confront as a practitioner is that of difficult relationships. Often clients come to me and say “Dadhichi, I don’t know why I did or said what I ………but it’s ruined my relationship”. Speech, the spoken word, or rather shouted sentences during arguments, take a heavy toll on relationships because often in those moments of strain our level of control just isn’t there. You find that these moments which are explosive and destructive to your relationships could have been noted beforehand and adjustments made to minimize the collateral damage!
Peace of mind, the 4th house, the Moon and your personal freedom and happiness – all linked by a single lunar process!! This is the beauty of astrology…..
Best wishes for the coming months.
Your astrologer,
Dadhichi
